The Story Behind The Real Chai

Growing up in Kolkata, India, Rajiv Roy’s earliest memories are filled with the aromatic scent of freshly brewed chai wafting through the morning air. Every morning, he would watch his Dad carefully measure out whole spices, crush them by hand, and blend them with premium Assam tea leaves to create the perfect cup of chai.

Our Journey

After moving to the United States in 2007, Rajiv found himself missing the authentic taste of home. While there were plenty of tea shops around, none captured the true essence of Indian street chai – that perfect balance of robust tea, freshly ground spices, and the warmth of tradition.

In 2025, armed with his Dad’s recipe and a passion for sharing authentic Indian chai, Rajiv started The Real Chai at local farmers markets. His goal is to grow and service the chai lover community, where people gather not just for a cup of chai, but for the experience of traditional Indian hospitality.

Our Process

Every morning, Rajiv hand-grinds fresh spices for the day’s service. Our signature masala blend includes:

• Cardamom pods
• Cinnamon
• Fresh ginger root
• Black peppercorns
• Cloves

These spices are then carefully blended with premium Assam tea leaves to create our signature chai mix. Each cup is freshly brewed to order, ensuring you get the perfect cup every time.

Our Community
